Barclays analyst Jeff Kvaal said that Research in Motion (NASDAQ:RIMM) opening its 2010 BlackBerry Developer Conference with several new announcements, with several advances on the application development front including HTML5 support and the PlayBook. Barclays views these advances as necessary to keep the company in the application races and are likely to be welcomed by the developer community. Kvaal said, "RIM unveiled the "PlayBook" and as expected the device is geared towards the enterprise market and showcases the new BlackBerry tablet OS. The tablet measures 7-inches (similar to the Samsung Galaxy tablet) featuring a capacitive touch screen with full multi-touch and gesture support. While the device does not offer dedicated cellular service, also as expected, future models will offer 3G and 4G service. For users who own a BlackBerry smartphone, the PlayBook will seamlessly integrate with the existing content and will also be able to connect to the internet via a Bluetooth connection. The PlayBook is also immediately compatible with the RIM's enterprise server (BES). All the content will be locally stored on your smartphone and therefore allows IT device management indirectly for the PlayBook as well." He added that it is expected to be available in retail and other channels in early 2011. SmarTrend alerted subscribers to take profits in Research In Motion on August 17, 2010 at $49.93, since then the stock fell 3.1%.
